Our Lady of Lourdes Primary School

Gemcan was appointed as the principal contractor for the Stage 1 redevelopment of Our Lady of Lourdes Primary School in Prahran, working in close collaboration with Y2 Architecture. The project involved a significant upgrade to the school’s teaching infrastructure through a combination of refurbishment works and new construction across multiple levels of an existing building.

The new third level features two contemporary classrooms, a breakout space, and an open circulation zone designed to encourage collaborative learning. Level 2 was reimagined with new classrooms, a meeting room, and additional breakout areas, enhanced with operable walls, acoustic treatments, upgraded finishes, and built-in joinery.

Accessibility improvements include a new lift and compliant stair system, while external works delivered a timber deck, custom balustrades, integrated garden beds, and coordinated landscaping. All works were completed safely within a live school environment, with high-risk activities carefully scheduled during school holidays to minimize disruption.
