Newman College

The Student Housing Initiative at Newman College involved the redevelopment and expansion of the existing student accommodation. The project delivered a modern student living environment while respecting the site’s architectural heritage.

The works combine new construction and refurbishment to create a multi-level facility housing 27 student rooms, communal living areas, kitchenettes, laundries, and accessible bathrooms. Internally, the works involved a complete strip-out followed by the installation of new plasterboard walls, upgraded flooring, modern finishes, and services. Non-heritage structures were selectively demolished, while heritage street-facing elements were retained and restored.

Externally, the upgrade introduced new access ramps, stairs, and a glazed canopy, supported by extensive landscaping. Bluestone paving, bicycle storage, and a steel palisade fence improved function, integration, and security. High-performance louvres and glazing replaced existing windows, while new fire-rated, acoustically sealed, and card-accessed doors ensured compliance, efficiency, and safety throughout the facility.
