Gemcan delivered the construction of a new mental health unit, the Psychiatric Assessment & Planning Unit (PAPU), alongside the Eastern Centre for Sexual Assault (ECASA) at Maroondah Hospital, Ringwood East. Located adjacent to the existing emergency building, the development provides four new acute mental health beds with supporting patient and staff facilities, including lounges, dining areas, assessment, consult and interview rooms, and treatment spaces, all designed to meet strict safety standards including anti-ligature requirements.
The ECASA suite was also constructed as part of the project, replacing existing facilities affected by the PAPU development. Landscaping works—both softscape and hardscape—complement the new external courtyard, entrance canopy, and sail shade structures, creating a welcoming and therapeutic environment. In total, the PAPU and ECASA add approximately 280 m² and 70 m² of building footprint respectively, enhancing the hospital’s capacity to provide safe, supportive, and accessible care.
