derby street upgrades

Gemcan was engaged to deliver refurbishment works to the ground floor of this 12-storey family high-rise building at 56 Derby Street, Kensington. The project aimed to modernise and reconfigure key communal spaces to improve functionality, security, and amenity for residents.


Scope of works included the complete strip-out of existing finishes, redundant services, and fixtures across the entry alcove, general foyer, lift lobby, rear entry, mail room, and other disused spaces. New construction works comprised a north-side airlock with canopy, an extended waiting area and workshop, as well as an east-side extension housing upgraded toilet and amenity facilities.


Additional works delivered a new office, security room, amenities, disabled toilet, and store room within a former lift shaft, alongside refurbishment of the cleaners’ store, lift lobby, and rear entry. Throughout construction, the building remained fully occupied, with careful staging and hoarding ensuring safety and minimal disruption to residents.
